7 Bad Hair Care Habits You Need To Get Rid Of

"Excellence is not an act, but a habit," a wise philosopher named Aristotle once said. And indeed, habits do make a man. We reap what we sow, and though we may not know it, we're always sowing every single day, every single moment of our lives.

In this article, we've included 7 bad hair care habits that you need to get rid of as soon as possible!

1. Washing your hair daily

You may think that keeping your hair 'clean' at all times is the best way to take care of your hair, but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

In actuality, washing your hair on a daily basis does more damage than good. Washing, especially if you use cleaning agents like shampoo, for example, can greatly damage your strands if you do it often enough. Shampoo, and even just plain water, can strip away your hair's natural oils, which are extremely important in keeping your hair hydrated. By washing every single day, you're actually removing those necessary oils that could help protect and moisturize your hair.

2. Forgetting to use sunscreen

Speaking of protection, forgetting to use hair sunscreen is another one on our list of bad hair care habits that you need to get rid of.

Your hair needs to be protected from the harsh rays of the sun, that's really all that needs to be said. Just like your skin, your hair is extremely vulnerable to harmful UVA and UVB rays. The longer you expose your hair to these rays, the higher the chance of your hair getting damaged.

Sun-damaged hair can be seen in the form of frizzy hair, dry and brittle strands, and discolored locks. If you want to avoid those, better start using sunscreen now!

3. Eating junk foods

"You are what you eat," or so they say. If that's the case, then if you're always eating junk foods... well, we'll let you come up with a conclusion yourself.

Nevertheless, what you eat is very important if you want to maintain healthy and gorgeous strands. Your hair is made up of a kind of keratin called protein, and it needs all the nourishment it needs. The best foods include protein sources like meat and eggs, as well as vitamin-rich foods like fish and vegetables.

4. Always getting stressed

Nobody likes getting stressed, that's for sure. But if you want to look beautiful at all times, then that's even more reason why you should avoid getting stressed.

Too much stress can raise your cortisol levels, which messes up your body's hormones, causing it to wreak havoc in all sorts of ways. When it comes to our hair, stress can cause some pretty scary effects. For example, alopecia, a condition where a person loses hair in round patches, is often linked to stress. Yikes!

Remember, there's nothing wrong with taking it easy sometimes. Life isn't a race, after all.

5. Forgoing enough sleep

One bad habit that people don't realize is damaging their hair is staying up too late. One moment they're just checking something on their phone, the next thing they know, it's 3 AM and they still have to show up to work at 8 AM tomorrow. Uh-oh, is less than 5 hours of sleep really enough?

Short answer: no. And we won't even bother with a long answer because it'll all just come down to "no", anyway. Not getting enough sleep at night is a huge problem that everyone just tends to ignore. What they don't know is that it can lead to a whole list of other issues that could've been avoided had they just slept enough.

For example, lack of sleep can cause stress. As mentioned in the previous item, too much stress can cause loss. It's also during sleep that your body heals and repairs itself. If it's not getting enough sleep, you won't be rested when you wake up in the morning either. This fatigue will just build up more and more as it shows up in your physical appearance in the form of dark eyebags and dull, dead hair. It's certainly one of the bad hair care habits that you should get rid of ASAP.
